TANZANIA FREIGHT FORWARDERS ASSOCIATION
TAFFA is a non-profit organization established in 1979 to represent all the clearing and forwarding firms in Tanzania. Today the Association has a membership base of over 1000 clearing and forwarding companies that are licensed. The association is a founder member of the private sector federation of Tanzania. The formation of the Association was initiated by the Ministry of home affairs which was keen to see the growth of the clearing and forwarding industry.
The ministry thus directed that an association to represent all firms in the industry be formed to monitor and evaluate the potential performance of the same but above all develop capacity-building mechanisms and support systems that would promote sustainable development of the industry as far as economic growth and quality standards are concerned.

TAFFA is a ‘true’ association run by its members, for its members. The structure of the Association is simple with various Committees and member.
TAFFA executive council consists of nine members. The President, the Vice President and the Treasurer who are also board members, form the executive committee, which is also referred to as the Supervisory Board of Directors. The Board is in constant communication with the Managing Director at TAFFA’s head office, who reports to the board about the daily management of the association. The Managing Director also gives advice to the board, but she does not take part in the voting process as the position is neutral.
